My sister recently came up with this question: Who would win in a fight, the king slayer and best swordsmith in Westeros and Essos, Jamie Lannister from Game of Thrones. Or the true king and only man to beat off the powerful effects of the one Ring, Aragon from The Lord of The Rings.
My sister knows how much I love to pit characters against one another, especially with Marvel vs DC characters, so this was a fun surprise that got me thinking. Seriously, who would win?
Jamie Lannister from Game of Thrones
In one corner we have Jamie Lannister, cunning, deceitful, sexy, and borderline good guy (who happens to be in love with his twin sister). Now, let’s just imagine that he’s got both hands for this battle. Jamie was known for being superior with his blade, and although I’ve never read the books, I’ve heard that Jamie is one serious bad ass – much better than in the show.
He uses his wit and intelligence to get what he wants, but always has his mad skills to fall back on. And let’s be honest here, even after he got his hand cut off, he was still able to kick some serious ass.
Jamie’s not driven by power or money, it all comes down to the love he has for his family, specifically his sister (yes it’s incestual) and his brother Tyrion, who he tries to save from being murdered by his sister – I know, it’s a complicated family.
Aragon from The Lord of The Rings
Aragon is a complex character. He’s the rightful heir to the throne of men, but he doesn’t want the power. Like Jamie, he’s driven by love, but also a sense of loyalty to do what’s right no matter the consequences. Aragon puts his life on the line for what he believes in, even if that costs him his happiness.
Unlike Jamie, Aragon’s got loyal friends and followers in Legolas and Gimli and has the power to command an undead army. Instead of keeping them around for just in case things, he honours his agreement with the army and releases their souls once he’s deemed their debt to him paid.
So who would win? Since I’ve never read the books, I can’t say that I’ve ever seen Jamie in all his glory. Where as I’ve witness Aragon be epic in 3 movies. Aside from Legolas, I can’t say there’s a character that’s more intense than him – he even beats out Gandalf.
I have to give this round to the true king of Gondor. Aragon has the skill, the assets and the drive to do what needs to be done. Jamie may be the best in King’s Landing, but I think he’s meet his match in Middle-Earth.
