Recap: The VMA’S 2016

The MTV VMA’s 2016 was sure to be a spectacle with the return of Britney Bitch and Queen Bey leading the charge. So let’s dig into what went down last night, and look at the best dressed stars to rock the red carpet.

Beyoncé led the pack of the 2016 nominees, with 11 nominations, making her the clear biggest winner of the night. She rightfully won video of the year with Formation, Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, Breakthrough Long Form Video, Best Choreography, Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. #NBD.

The show had a couple stand out moments for me! First being Drake and Rihanna parading around their love for each other (please be a real couple, oh please!). The 6ix god presented RiRi with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and his speech was everything, check it out below:

Next we saw Britney Spears return to the stage after years of absence from the VMA’s, and while it was enjoyable it was nothing special. I love Britney, she brings back the good ol’ days from my youth, but she’ll never have the stage presence she once exuded.

Kanye managed not to sound like an idiot during his speech, which was a nice surprise. He touched on the murders in Chicago, talked about recent tabloid shenanigans (aka the Taylor Swift takedown – take note that Swifty casually decided to sit this one out lolz), called Chance the Rapper “the future” for rap music, and only managed to talk about how great he was at least once. Good stuff Kanye!

Now before I look at my fave dressed stars, please take a moment to enjoy this breathtaking poem that Alice Keys recited in commemoration of the 53rd anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. She spoke on how sex and war are treated by culture that eventually turned into a full-out hymn about the callousness of the world.

Check out who I think looked absolutely stunning below! Who stole your number 1 spot?
