Best Super Bowl Halftime Shows Thus Far

Last night was Lady Gaga’s concert with a small little show called the Super Bowl before and after. And watching it got me thinking, what are some of the best super bowl halftime shows so far?

9. Lady Gaga (2017)

It’s kinda hard to beat 300 drones, amazing live vocals and a jump that would even make Xander Cage think twice. Even if you’re not a fan of hers, you have to admit, Lady Gaga killed it. Starting out with the classics that turned her into a household name, I’m glad I tuned in to see Gaga in all her glory. While her acrobatics may not have been on Pink’s level, she looked and performed amazingly.

8. Diana Ross (1996)

Homegirl brought out entire choir on stage with her! For some reason that just gets me in the mood to jump right out of my chair. If there’s one thing that Diana Ross does, it’s emulate positivity in her performances. Plus, hits like I Will Survive and Ain’t no Mountain High Enough what could be better?

7. Katy Perry with Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott (2015)

I’m not the biggest fan of Katy Perry, but Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott were giving it their all in this performance! And just like Gaga, Perry has some pipes on her.

6. Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, P. Diddy, Kid Rock, Jessica Simpson and Nelly (2004)

Pretty sure everyone remembers that infamous moment when Janet Jackson’s right nipple was exposed to millions of viewers at the end of the Super Bowl halftime show in 2004. That one moment was talked about more times than the game itself. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do a halftime show right!

5. Aerosmith, Britney Spears, N’Sync, Nelly & Mary J. Blige (2001)

Ahhh, back when Britney and Justin Timberlake were serious #Goals. Before all the celebrity break ups that have devastated us over the past few years (Brangelina anyone?), this was the break ups of all break ups. The mashup of N’Sync, Nelly and Britney Spears doing Walk This Way was honestly one of the best moments on TV that year.

4. Beyoncé (2013)

The fact that she brought Destiny’s Child back together for this performance was honestly enough for me. I couldn’t deal with the nostalgia feels. Yes there were some weird facial expressions, but who cares? Girl was working it.

3. Michael Jackson (1993)

The moment that James Earl Jones’ (aka Darth Vader) voice rang through the stadium speakers, announcing an “unprecedented Super Bowl spectacular starring Michael Jackson” was about to take the stage, you knew you were in for a spectacle. Especially since he magically appeared from all ends of the stadium. It was his performance of Billie Jean that truly turned the halftime into a show! And his energy during the We Are The World performance is more crucial in todays world than ever before.

2. Prince (2007)

While MJ may have invented the idea of a true Super Bowl half time spectacle, Prince most definitely perfected it. When he delivered this unbelievable guitar solo for Purple Rain, I swear audiences actually weeped. RIP to both him and MJ, two amazing legends.

1. Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Beyoncé (2016)

Colplay was kinda meh, but once Bruno Mars and Queen Bey herself marched on stage, it was nothing short of perfection. Beyonce’s performance of Formation, an unapologetic Black Lives Matter anthem, created some controversy but people needed to just relax. It came out at the perfect time, and was exactly what we needed! The dance off, her back up dancers, jamming out to Uptown Funk. Omg, I could honestly talk about this show for the rest of my life. Don’t believe? Just watch.

What halftime show was your favourite? Did you enjoy Lady Gaga’s performance?
