The internet lost their cool with Beyoncé’s performance, I fell in love with That’s What I Like by Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys and Maren Morris teamed up and stole the show, while Adele split her Grammy in half believing Beyoncé’s Lemonade album should have won the Album of The Year Grammy. Hello 2017.
The Grammys always comes out with a bang, and last night did not disappoint. With host James Corden creating his own rendition of carpool karaoke with the audience (reminiscent of Ellen’s Oscar selfie that broke the internet), everyone brought their A-game.
First things first, Katy Perry. I knew she would do something political as she was a huge spokes person for Hilary Clinton. She performed her new single Chained to the Rhythm with Skip Marley in front of mirror-covered fences. The imagery alone implied that putting up border fences is actually more a reflection on the person who put the fences up rather than those of the other side.
Bust she didn’t hold a candle next to the most political moment of the night with A Tribe Called Quest teaming up with one of my fave new artists out there Anderson .Paak, alongside Busta Rhymes and Consequence. They addressed the Muslin ban from “President Agent Orange” and closed with Q-Tip shouting “resist!”.
Ed Sheeran killed his performance of Shape of You as he alone did the background lyrics on repeat to his live performance. Chance The Rapper certainly cleaned house, and won Best New Artist (sadly beating out Anderson .Paak) and brought together soul, gospel and hip-hop in his performance of How Great and All We Got.
However, I can’t discuss the Grammys without mentioning the amazing Prince tribute; Bruno Mars perfectly embodied the legend with his superb vocals and showmanship. I believe Prince would have been proud!
Check out my fave looks from last nights show, and don’t forget to check out other amazing red carpet looks here!
