Star Trek: Discovery

Star Trek: Discovery is set to be released this September! Here’s what we know so far.

The first season has been given the green light for 15 episodes to be separated in the fall of this year and in the winter of next.

The series stars Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, The Walking Dead‘s own Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham, along with James Frain and Michelle Yeo just to name a few!

I have to say that I am most excited about Martin-Green’s character, as she is the first human to attend the Vulcan Learning Center as a child and then the Vulcan Science Academy as a young woman. She has a close relationship with Spock’s father Sarek (James Frain).

I hope that this series has a positive experience, and does not struggle like Enterprise did years ago. I also hope it doesn’t go the J.J Abrams route of the recent Star Trek films. Please oh please hold onto what made the original series (and all that followed) spectacular. Star Trek is not about action and things blowing up.

And besides, I’m sick of seeing the past. I want to see the future. Past Voyager, TNG and Deep Space Nine. Give us a story we’ve never seen before, or at least an alternate reality.

The trailer makes me concerned for this series. It’s clearly set in the Abrams timeline, as it’s full of lens flares and weird looking Klingons. The show all around feels too much like a film. It’s all about the action and not the science. The best scenes from Star Trek was through the dialogue and not the special effects. To quote Ensign Harry Kim, it’s about the journey.

Here’s to the journey!

Are you excited for Star Trek: Discovery? What’s your favourite Star Trek series?
